Union Call To Take Strike Call Seriously

CIRCULAR LETTER NO. 27/45/2014/1 2nd January, 2014

To All Office Bearers / State Federations /
All India Bankwise Organistions:

Dear Comrades,

UFBU’s Strike on 20th & 21st Jan. 2014
CLC calls for conciliation meeting on 13th Jan. 2014
IBA calls for negotiations on 29th Jan. 2014

We are sure that by now all our units and members have received our communication about the UFBU’s call for 48 hours /2 Days strike on 20th and 21st February, 2014. In the last round of negotiations held on 14th December, 2014, despite our repeated requests, IBA did not come forward to increase their offer from 5%. Even during the conciliation meeting held by the Chief Labour Commissioner on 16-12-2013, we urged for an increased offer but it was not forthcoming from the IBA. Hence the strike was forced on us. Even after the successful strike and total expression of resentment by the employees and officers, the IBA did not react to our demand for an increased offer.

Hence the UFBU from its meeting held in Hyderabad on 23-12-2013, gave the call for two days strike on 20th and 21st January, 2014. Now the IBA has invited the UFBU for further negotiations on 29th January, 2014. The fixing of the date on 29th January clearly revels that the IBA wants to pre-empt our strike action. If the IBA was serious about our demands and the need to expedite the settlement, they would have called for the meeting before the strike.

In the meantime, since the UFBU has served the strike notice, the Chief Labour Commissioner of the Ministry of Labour, Central Government has called the UFBU and the IBA for the conciliation meeting on 13th January, 2014.

Our units and members will appreciate that these are routine developments and hence should in no way dilute our preparations for the strike action or divert our attention. All our units are requested to effectively prepare for the strike call and implement all the programmes successfully.

With greetings,
Yours Comradely,

C.H. VENKATACHALAM
GENERAL SECRETARY

  1. I feel that UFBU is on the right track in the wage negotiation with IBA. As said, the wage talks should have been called well before the Strike dates by the IBA. Instead, they have called UBFU on 29.01.2014. This shows that IBA is trying to thwart the Agitations of the Bankmen under the guise of wage negotiation. But now our Union/Association leaders have understood the IBAs attitude and issued statements that the Strike to be continued as planned and should not be diluted at any cost. I appreciate our leaders bold decision in this regard and salute them.
