July 19 is 45th anniversary of bank nationalization.

The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) will observe the 45th anniversary of bank nationalisation as All India Day on July 19.

The organisation will arrange programmes to highlight the importance of public sector banking on the occasion.

One of the foremost demands of the organisation is that Associate banks be freed from State Bank of India (SBI).
State Bank of Travancore is among the associate banks proposed to be merged with SBI.
Though some steps were taken to achieve the goal, these have not been processed to reach a decisive stage.
The bank employees unions believe their opposition to the proposal has made an impact on the decision-makers, though final word on the merger is yet to emerge.
The operating systems at various levels of both the banks are identical, which could facilitate a merger without much delay once a decision is taken, banking sources said.

AIBEA has launched a campaign against high-end lending to corporates and the subsequent loss to public sector banks owing to non-repayment.
