Loot From HDFC Bank Staff

Bank loot: No trace of miscreants
VARANASI: Even after a day of sensational loot of Rs 24.50 lakhs from the collection staff of Shahganj branch of HDFC bank the Jaunpur police were groping in dark on Tuesday.

The bank has engaged a private agency to collect cash from traders and commercial firms. According to reports on Monday morning, when the agency staff, along with an armed security guard, reached bank with Rs 24.50 lakhs, six armed miscreants on two motorcycles raided the place. Four of them looted the bag containing cash on gun point from collection staff. On being opposed they started indiscriminate firing and fled.

DIG Varanasi Range Sanjay Kakkad along with the local police reached the incident site.

The loot incident was also recorded in CCTV of the bank but due to poor quality of visuals the looters could not be identified. Later, the DIG ordered to engage the STF to probe the case. Shahganj police on Tuesday denied of having any clue about the looters. Inspector Shahganj Rajmohan Yadav said as bank had armed guards the policemen deployed on bank security duty were not placed regular basis.

In recent past two petrol pumps were also looted in similar style in the district. However the police claimed that these cases have been worked out and now police are suspecting involvement of some new gang in this case.
