Bank Manager Gets One Year Jail For Bribe

Bank manager gets one year in prison for accepting bribe-Times of India-13.04.2014
CHENNAI: A special court for CBI cases on Friday sentenced former branch manager of Punjab National Bank, Tirupathur, to one-year rigorous imprisonment after he was caught taking a bribe by the CBI.

On March 3, 2013, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of CBI, Chennai registered a case against T Venkatesan, then bank manager, for demanding a bribe of Rs80,000. According to the complaint, he demanded the bribe for sanctioning a Rs20 lakh loan for starting an air-conditioned hotel.

The CBI laid a trap and caught him accepting the bribe and booked him under Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA), 1988. Special judge R Killivalavan also fined Venkatesan Rs10,000.


2 youths duped of Rs 95,000 in banks-TOI
PUNE: Two youths were duped to the tune of Rs 95,000 in separate incidents on Thursday.

In the first incident, a 20-year-old employee of a firm in Kothrud had gone to deposit cash in a bank on Paud Road. He was duped by a man who offered to help him in depositing the money. The incident took place around 12.45pm.

A complaint has been lodged by Shekhar Mene (20) of Sutardara in Kothrud with the Kothrud police station.

The police said Mene had gone to the bank to deposit Rs 50,000 cash from his office. An unidentified man approached Mene and told him that he would give him Rs 1.30 lakh and asked him to wait outside the bank to collect the cash from another person.

He also took Rs 50,000 from Mene and offered to deposit the money in the bank. The person managed to escape from the bank with the money, police said.

A similar incident took place in a bank on Laxmi Road around noon on Thursday. The complainant Gopiram Chaurasiya (25) had gone to deposit Rs 45,000, which he wanted to send to his native place in Uttar Pradesh. A person approached Chaurasiya and offered him help in filling the bank slip. He then told Chaurasiya that he would get a pen but fled with the money.

A case has been registered with the Vishrambaug police station.
