Man seeks bank loan to fight election in Andhra-Times of India 30.03.2014
HYDERABAD: K Venkata Narayana is a man on a mission. Unlike others likely to be in the fray from the Amberpet assembly constituency, Narayana, a resident of Srinivas Nagar colony has no money, but immense zeal to 'serve' people.
Narayana, an undergraduate, devised a twin strategy to overcome financial constraints. He walked into Canara Bank at Nallakunta and petitioned the officials for a Rs 10 lakh loan to fund his election campaigning. He also wrote to the Chief Electoral Officer to waive the deposit amount. He is optimistic of securing the loan as well as winning as an independent candidate.
When Venkata Narayana approached the Nallakunta branch of the bank on March 22, the authorities were taken aback as they were not sure that the rules would allow them to approve a loan for contesting elections. They reportedly told him that they would forward his application to their head office to take a decision and get back to him.
Incidentally, Narayana was earlier associated with Democratic Youth Federation of India. He even approached chief electoral officer (CEO) Bhanwarlal a couple of days ago seeking waiver of deposit amount to file nomination papers for all SC/ST candidates in the ensuing elections.
"I come from a poor family and have been doing such social service for the past 14 years as attending to grievances of locals in my individual capacity. My father is a daily-wage worker. One of my brothers is an electrician and another a cab driver. My financial status won't permit me to pay deposit of Rs 5,000. So, I asked the CEO to waive the deposit of all SC and ST candidates in the country," Venkata Narayana told TOI.
The CEO's office informed him that since the issue was a policy decision his representation would be sent to EC for taking a view
