Rapist-turned bank officer in police net

Rapist-turned bank officer in police net--Indian Express News --

It was an unexpected prize catch for Kerala Police when rape convict Bitti Mohanty, absconding for nearly seven years, fell into their net here on Friday.
Bitti, who was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate at his residence on Saturday, was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
The arrest of Bitti,  son of former DGP of Odisha B B Mohanty, was as dramatic as his life after conviction for a seven-year jail term for the rape of a German tourist in Rajasthan in 2006.
He had jumped parole after being in jail for a few months.
The cops acted with meticulous precision following a tip-off to arrest him. They had also got a complaint by the State Bank of Travancore stating that a person with  suspicious identity was working as a probationary officer at its Madayi branch.
When Bitti was picked up from a lodge in Kannur, the cops had no means to verify his identity.
All that the police could say on Friday night was that a youth named Raghav Raj, son of Rajeev Raj of Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh, had been taken into custody.
His identity was confirmed only after contacting the Rajasthan Police.
During questioning, Bitti told the police that he had been living in the state for the last three years.
The police were waiting for the arrival of cops from Rajasthan to confirm his identity.
According to police sources, Bitti himself confirmed his identity.
His colleagues at the bank had started doubting his credentials when they noticed the close resemblance Raghav bore to the photograph of absconding Bitti, being circulated on the Internet.
An anonymous letter stating the antecedents of Bitti was received by the officials, pointing to the fact that he is none other than the sex offender who jumped parole while undergoing imprisonment for raping a German woman at Alwar in Rajastan in 2006.
A fast-track court then had sentenced him to seven years’ jail in the case.
