Here's a look at the top banks in India in various categories - Large Banks, Mid-sized Banks, Small Banks and Very Small Banks.
- ICICI Bank ranks No. 1 in terms of capital adequacy ratio
- J&K Bank has the lowest cost to income ratio in the mid-sized banks cluster
- Dhanlaxmi Bank is the only bank in mid-sized segment to post operating losses
- Bank of America has the highest return on assets in the small-size category

Small Banks now comprise those with balance sheet size above Rs 10,000 crore, instead of Rs 3,000 crore as before. Those with balance sheet size below Rs 10,000 crore form the Very Small Banks category. Thus, Mizuho Corporate has been shifted from the Small Banks cluster to Very Small Banks cluster; Credit Agricole, State Bank of Mauritius, Krung Thai, and Mashreq Bank are new entrants in Very Small Banks cluster
