BEFI Wants Wage Revision Before Poll

BEFI wants wage pact before polls--The Hindu

The State committee of the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) has sought the wage pact for bank staff should be settled before the coming general election.
The federation was voicing concerns over the delay in including the wage agreement of bank employees that expired a year ago.
BEFI’s State general secretary C.J. Nadakumar alleged here on Thursday that IBA, the apex body of bank managements, had been creating obstacles in bipartite negotiations by raising counter demands aimed at dismantling the decades-old bipartite mechanism in banking industry.
He also accused the Central government of adopting a discriminatory attitude towards bank employees.
While the Central government had been quick to announce a pay commission for its staff though it was due only in 2016, the Finance Ministry had been maintaining total silence on wage revision of bank employees.
New recruits
The BEFI State general secretary said unattractive wage structure in banking industry had been driving away new recruits and it was in the interest of the industry to offer an attractive wage revision.
Cooperative sector
The talks for wage revision in cooperative banking sector in the State had also got deadlocked, the federation said.
Employees organisations in the cooperative sector were getting ready to launch an agitation.
The federation appealed to State government to avoid unrest by allowing wage revision in State cooperative sector.

  1. BEFI one of the main constituent of UFBU, is now awakened and started saying that the IBA is delaying the Wage Revision of Bank personnel. I do not understand why they have not raised during the March 2013 when the IBA was postponing the date of meeting and no announcing the next meeting date etc. As the 2014 Lok Sabha Polls are nearing, and being a party to the delays all along these periods with IBA, now one after another the unions are coming out openly against IBA and seeking early settlements for Wage. These circumstances have now raised that whether we shall get a better Wage Revision atleast on par with Central Govt counterparts or a pea nut.
